The 4th edition of the biggest Urdu festival of India “Jashn-e-Rekhta” is back! Yes, “Jashn-e-Rekhta” is back to celebrate the most beautiful language Urdu in all its form in Delhi again!
The Urdu language has a royal touch and it always brings out the hidden shayar in most of us! Urdu words are itself so beautiful that they feel like poetry. As a language, Urdu has been always been a fascinating language to me but the problem is I’m really not that good at understanding the Urdu words. Anyway forget about me and let’s talk about the Jashn-e-Rekhta!
Jashn-e-Rekhta is an annual 3day festival for the Urdu language speakers and lovers that takes place in Delhi. This festival is named after Rekhta which actually means scattered or mixed and is the another name for the poetic form of the Urdu language.
Rekhta is a non-profit organization founded by Sanjiv saraf with the objective of promoting the Urdu literature especially Urdu poetry.
Many famous celebrities from Bollywood and artists from both India and Pakistan such as Gulzar, Rafaqat Ali Khan, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi and many more eminent artists have marked their presence to this festival.
The slogan of the Jashn- e- Rekhta is “CelebratingUrdu” and the best part is “the attendance is free of charge to this festival!”
Jashn-e-Rekhta attracts not only urdu literature lover and poets but it is quiet popular among the youths too. In the year 2016, majority of the attendees were youth.
The festival showcases not only urdu poetry but also urdu literature, qawali, ghazals, street plays, panel discussion, datangoi ( storytelling ) sessions as well as book exhibition, shopping experience and food festival too which was debuted last year.
Do you remember these lines of Zakir khan “mere kuch sawaal hai jo qayamat ke roz puchunga tumse, kyunki usse phle tumhari aur meri baat ho jaye is layak nhi ho tum!”? Yes, this amazing and beautiful poetry was presented by Zakir Khan at the 3rd edition of Jashn-e-Rekhta in Feb 2017.
Last year we fell in love with the beautiful poetry of Zakir Khan and other eminent artists from different corners of the world and this year too we’re really looking forward to this biggest Urdu festival of India.
